2007 Report AT THE FOURTH ANNUAL Texas Exes Golf Championship, held Sept. 10 at the University of Texas Golf Club and sponsored by Despair.com, 50 two-person teams competed in a best-ball-style competition with hopes of getting their names inscribed on a bronze Texas Tower Trophy. The two winning tandems — the father-son duo of Ken McFarland Sr. and Ken McFarland Jr. (net) and brothers Anthony and Brian Peterman (gross) — both have had their names inscribed previously after wins in 2004 and 2006, respectively. The Petermans defended their title as champions in gross score. The McFarlands won gross in 2004. The approximately $15,000 raised through the tournament each year supports the Texas Exes UT Heritage Society, a group dedicated to collecting, preserving, and promoting the history and traditions of The University of Texas. The golfers began the day early, with a 7 a.m. check-in and breakfast, followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start. This year JPMorgan Chase sponsored each team with fore caddies, who kept the pace of play up and the number of lost balls down. In return for playing, the golfers received a Texas Exes Golf Tournament shirt, golf balls, and a custom hat embroidered with their last name on the back. Food and beverages were provided throughout the day. |
